Company History

Founder G. Howard Lund began his boat-building empire in Minnesota in 1948 by constructing his first aluminum duck boat. Because Lund’s boat demonstrated his engineering prowess and attention to detail so well, it caught the attention of a salesman from Inland Marine Corporation. The salesman ordered 50 of Lund’s boats, which were designed to be of a superior quality and highly durable in order to suit hunting and fishing pursuits.

Lund Metal Craft, Inc., was incorporated in 1961, and the company added fiberglass fishing boats to its roster. Fiberglass was a relatively new and innovative material for hull construction that was both attractive and durable, so it only made sense for Lund to begin making fiberglass fishing boats as well. 

The company acquired Shell Lake Boat Company soon thereafter and began to manufacture sport boats as well. To this day, Lund boats are relied upon by fishers the world over and they’ve even been utilized in fishing competitions!
